i typically don’t respond to things I see posted on tumblr that I qualify as ignorant and yes i mean IGNORANT in its literal term, but something i saw on a forum irked me to the nth degree.
i don’t know why some natural hair girls feel as though if you don’t have natural hair then you must not love yourself. and i always end up thinking myself these are the same chicks that wear eye liner and mascara. they play into the stereotypes they claim are of the “oppressed black woman” too. yet they are trying to come at girls with relaxed hair.
if you are content with your hair and how you feel towards yourself then so be it. but you cannot speak on behalf of relaxed hair girls. for one if you don’t have relaxed hair then you have no room to judge. and two preference is preference, but if i prefer not to not have natural hair then it is my business.
i knew from when i was younger on the sundays in jamaica where i painstakingly sat between my mother’s legs as she yanked my hair that natural hair was not for me. the maintenance required for it is not my cup of tea. besides i find more liberation in my mohawk and my shaved off sides than i do with “natural hair”.
me choosing not to have natural hair has nothing to do with not loving myself or having some deep rooted hatred. i am confident within myself and who i am. my hair doesn’t define me.
and to be frank i believe that the ones with the real problem of self love and deep rooted hatred is the natural hair extremist. those who want black women as a whole to go on a cleansing ridding themselves of relaxers and weave. because honestly why are you so concerned with what goes on with other people’s mane ?
why do you care that i choose to have bone straight hair on friday and by monday i’ve got on my lace front [not that i wear one, but you get the point]. it is not your business. and whatever discontent you have with the state of your representation and color in this society does not reflect how others feel. not everyone goes around wanting to pump up a black fist. i have pride in being a black woman, but i will not walk around knit picking society and pointing out glass ceilings.
furthermore, i really believe it is an american issue. because coming from the islands i’ve never seen such fuss about relaxers and natural hair or about blacks not being prideful.
anyways, if you feel liberated with your mane then so be it. but until you are on the flip side then you can’t make such claims.
and to that article that claims that there is some deep rooted hatred with chicks who bleach their skin. i highly believe you need to take a trip to jamaica and study the cultural differences between pride here and pride there. because tanya from cross the banks has more confidence and self love than any other woman i know.
but i digress.
Man i love renee, but BIG ANG has definitely taken her spot. like she just came and stole me
Of course it was going to happen like this, Drake thought to himself as he exited the dressing room of the Gap. It was the only way.
Common was right there, blocking his path to the three-way mirror, smirking. His head was so shiny. Drake wanted to punch him in it.

Swizz Beats and Alicia Keys sat at the Megaupload headquarters, waiting. They were sitting on the floor, their backs against the wall of the safe that held the physical copies off all of the files they had pirated using Megaupload over the years. Swizz Beats was…
